Research interests

One current aim of our research is the understanding of the molecular mechanisms by which defects in lipoprotein metabolism (high levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, low levels of HDL cholesterol) change the metabolic phenotype of immune cells and contribute to the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. A second aim is to understand the role of brain and systemic apolipoprotein E and of metabolic comorbidities (hypertriglyceridemia, NAFLD) on the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s Disease. A third aim is the development of multimarker models for better diagnosis and prediction of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) using multiomics and Artifical Intelligence/Machine Learning approaches (in collaboration with European partners).
